Overview
This script disables the automatic redirection from classic Outlook to the new Outlook for Windows.
There are two versions of Outlook: the classic Outlook (sometimes called "Mail") which is no longer supported, and the new Outlook 1 2. Microsoft automatically redirects you to the new Outlook when you try to launch classic Outlook 3.
By disabling this automatic switch, you can use classic Outlook if you prefer its interface. You can have both versions pinned to the taskbar and run them at the same time 4. You can go back to classic Outlook for Windows by selecting the toggle in the new Outlook for Windows app 3.
This script does not prevent you from using the new Outlook. It only stops automatic switching when you open the classic version.
It improves user control over your system:
- It prevents unexpected disruptions when you intend to use classic Outlook.
- It lets you transition to the new Outlook on your own schedule rather than being forced.
- It respects your personal preference and autonomy as a user.
It enhances privacy by letting you choose which Outlook version collects and processes your personal information. The new Outlook features increased cloud integration and collects more telemetry data than the classic version 5 6 7.
This data includes:
- Passwords 5 6 7
- Emails 5 6 7
- Your interests 8
- Demographics 8
- Other personally identifiable information 8
The classic Outlook is no longer supported by Microsoft. It may contain unpatched security vulnerabilities. Using unsupported software may expose your system to security risks.
Classic Outlook lacks security updates. The new Outlook receives security updates but collects more of your data.
